Before half term a group of A Level Dance students went to see a full length traditional ballet at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton as we have recently been studying Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes.
Hierarchical, stereotypical, and yes, lots of men in tights! It‟s quite something to say that we have been to the ballet! The following evening we enjoyed a night of contemporary dance work performed by the undergraduate dance company at the University of Chichester; digital projections, self made scores and use of voice – one piece done to the tick tock of a metronome and another using only the light of a mobile phone…..but Diaghilev would have loved it and so did we!
