Bedales hosts local dance showcase

Bedales Olivier Theatre played host to a stunning display of local dance talent at the school’s annual Youth Dance Platform over the weekend. The event gives young people the opportunity to perform on stage and see other performances from their contemporaries with the overall aim of celebrating and developing dance style and talent.

The lively fast moving show comprised various short works by the Hampshire Youth Dance Company, Frensham Heights, Totton College, Amesbury School, Petersfield Academy of Dance and students from Bedales and Bedales Prep, Dunhurst.

Dunhurst Block 2 (year 8) pupils performed ‘Those magnificent men in their flying machines’. The Bedales AS Level exam trio performed ‘Shattered’ and the Bedales Dance Company performed ‘I believe’, a student devised piece led and rehearsed by them in their own time. The Bedales Block 5 (year 11) group’s ‘Night Light’ saw dancing to an electronic score with a film projection, designed by the students as part of their project.

Erin Norris, Dance Teacher at Amesbury School, said:

“We all had a fantastic day at Bedales. It was such a great opportunity for the pupils to meet other students and to get a chance to share work with each other. It was a really positive event and we are looking forward to next year already.”

Keith Budge, Headmaster of Bedales Schools, said:

“The Youth Dance Platform provides a wonderful opportunity for dance students to practise and perform in front of a knowledgeable and appreciative audience. We enjoy hosting this event, enabling local dance companies and school students to learn from each other through sharing their talents and passion for dance.”
